Industry Nine, or high jewelry bicycle components, returns to Trans-Nomad. Some were lucky enough to test their rims, hubs and stems. What can we say about one of the world’s number one handmade components? We were also fortunate to have their top managers from Spain and now Europe in the 2021 edition, both Nathan Deibert and Isaac Reina. Today we know them a little more and they tell us news of Industry Nine and their experience in Trans-Nomad.

Industry Nine continues to grow and position itself as one of the best bicycle component brands in the world. What is the secret to its success?
It’s not about secrets, nor is it something that falls from the sky or is subject to luck. At Industry Nine, we work to improve products and services. From management, designers, production, to wheel assemblers, everyone strives to take a small step every day, improving their contribution to the brand. We always believe that we can do better, and as bicycle users ourselves, we want our customers to find what we look for in a product: excellence.
Many users think that component prices are exaggerated and that they don’t make a significant difference in bicycles. What would you tell them to debunk this myth?
As you rightly said, it’s a myth, it’s not real. Obviously, the materials, manufacturing, and service are not standard. Our factory is located in Asheville, USA, and our premium carbon rims are manufactured in Canada. The costs are higher, and therefore, the price is higher as well, but the customer receives a product of very high quality. For the upcoming season, we are going to work on tests or demos so that potential users can try out Industry Nine wheels. There, each user can draw their own conclusions, including the answer to why our product has that extra value.
Regarding Trans-Nomad, you were able to experience it as riders in the 2021 edition. What did you like most about the adventure?
Trans-Nomad is like a family with a father at the helm. Once you participate, you become part of it. Javi takes us to those corners of the Pyrenees for us to enjoy, making it easy for us to ride in an environment that many wouldn’t have access to otherwise. If you add to all this the exceptional camaraderie, what more could you ask for?
We always ask those who have already been to TN to give advice to new Transnomaders on how to approach the adventure. Any tips for the portages? For everyday riding?
The most important thing is to have information and a clear idea of where you’re going and what you might encounter. Don’t ignore the organizer’s newsletters, gather videos and experiences from previous years, and have a global idea. Combine that with a certain level of fitness and technical skills. It’s not difficult, but enjoying it from the first minute, even if it means carrying a bike for more than an hour, is the most important thing. You should see it as a privilege, not an obligation. No one is forced to come here.
Going back to Industry Nine, could you explain the new implementation and distribution situation of the brand in Spain and Europe, as we know there have been some changes?
We have been familiar with Industry Nine since 2013 when we started as importers through Surbikes, and since 2020, we operate as Industry Nine Europe, based in Jerez de la Frontera, functioning as our own brand, just like the one headquartered in North Carolina. Consumers, shops, distributors in other countries, or brands can come directly to us. We have continuous stock, wheel builders, and a technical service for repairs. In the coming month of July, we will launch the European version of www.industrynine.com, where any of our products can be purchased. Until now, it was only available for the North American market.
And finally, are you going to participate in TN again this year? Would you recommend TN to a friend?
During those dates, we have a very busy schedule. We live in the south, more than 1000 km away, and the previous weekend we travel to Girona for Sea Otter. We have to drive across Spain twice (over 4000 km in a week) to participate in Trans-Nomad. We will try our best, we are eager to do it…
