Dirtlej joined us for the first time at the 2021 edition of Trans-Nomad. They are our official gear sponsor and dress our patrols with their technical and durable gear for the MTB that we love the most: the one of adventure and joy. We were lucky to meet Jan and Lena, who came to participate. Today, we interviewed them to hear more about Dirtlej and their experience at Trans-Nomad.
Another edition at Trans-Nomad as the official gear sponsor. How is Dirtlej progressing with their new products? Can we expect any updates in this edition of Trans-Nomad?
Dirtlej is doing well for the moment. Since the last Trans-Nomad we have been developing new
products and, what is also very important, continued to improve our current products. We have found two great new employees, who are helping us with product development and sustainability topics. Besides we are currently investing more in our own testing facilities so that we have the right equipment for e.g. durability and fabric tests. It is important for us to run tests and standards in-house.
This year we launched our first series of cycling glasses. Especially the photochromic glasses are
really great. Towards the end of the year, we will definitely have some new products for the bad
weather time.
What is Dirtlej’s philosophy regarding your products? What do you consider when designing a new product for MTB?
KEEP THINGS SIMPLE. No fancy gadgets that are of no benefit to the rider. Last, but not least, we
try to design the products in a way, that we can repair them.
Both Jan and Lena, you were racers in the previous edition. How was the experience?
We loved the fact, that Trans-Nomad is a physical event. Trans-Nomad days are long . The
landscape in the Pyrenees is absolutely stunning and the stages make you forget about the
challenging uphills. The days are organized in an amazing way with great food and technical
assistance for riders with mechanicals. And then there are of course the people, the Trans-Nomad
crew and the other riders were just so great to spend time with!
What would you recommend to someone coming to Trans-Nomad for the first time? Any advice for new trans-nomaders?
Well, bring a well-serviced bike and prepare for some hard uphill pedaling and long stages. Only
the tough get into the garden.
Dirtlej is committed to MTB and supports other events in Europe. Are events a good way to promote the brand?
Honestly, it is very hard to say. In the end, we have decided to work with people we value and who
are passionate about mountain biking. Trans-Nomad is definitely a very special event and we are
happy to be part of it.
Lastly, will we see you again in this edition of Trans-Nomad?
Of course, we are already looking forward to it!
